A Research Project on Local, Sustainable Food Production and the Environment

  • Students sought for a reading and research internship program to gather data on energy use and greenhouse gas emissions at Chicago-area farms
  • Mandatory one year commitment:

Winter and Spring 2010: reading and research on environmental impact of food production, locally and nationally

Summer 2010: farm internship and data collection on farm

Autumn 2010: analysis of data collected on-farm

  • Summer stipend for farm internship with some opportunity for additional employment during school year
  • Up to two quarters of credit given over the three quarters of participation in the program
  • Satisfies the Environmental Studies field study major degree requirement
  • Both rural and urban farming systems involved in the study
  • Opportunity to develop thesis stemming from participation in the project
  • Graduate student participation welcomed
