Episcopal Diocese of Kansas

Campus Missioner

Position Description:

The Episcopal Diocese of Kansas is seeking an entrepreneurial priest interested in helping us continue to build a new model for ministries with college students. The Campus Missioner will have primary oversight of our ministry at Kansas State University in Manhattan and, together with the other Campus Missioner, will work with parishes around the diocese to start and/or expand their ministries with college students. This is a full-time diocesan staff position. The Campus Missioner will report directly to the Bishop and will work in collaboration with the other Campus Missioner, the Canon to the Ordinary and the Higher Education Committee of the diocese.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be an Episcopal priest who enjoys creating new ways of proclaiming the gospel in a college or university environment, exhibits a positive and fearless mindset, and is excited by our vision for campus ministries. Because helping congregations engage campus ministries is a significant part of the responsibilities, previous experience in a parish or campus ministry context is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-going supervision and development for active Campus Intern and Peer Minister programs at Kansas State University.
  • Identify, recruit and equip student leaders to develop an on-going Episcopal presence and ministry at campuses throughout the diocese.
  • Encourage the development of a variety of peer-based ministries and initiatives.
  • Regularly preach, teach and celebrate the Sacraments at churches around the diocese.
  • Cultivate collaborative working relationships with other clergy and parishes in close proximity to colleges and universities throughout the diocese.
  • Assist in the development of an annual budget for all campus ministries, including securing supplemental funding through grants and other alternative sources, and directly manage funds allocated for maintaining and developing ministries at one of the two campus ministry facilities and other campuses.
  • Work with the diocesan Youth Coordinator to integrate Episcopal youth into college ministries.
  • Actively maintain effective lines of communication between all stakeholders in diocesan campus ministries, including the Bishop, the Canon to the Ordinary, the Committee for Young Adults, the Committee for Higher Education, the Council of Trustees, Diocesan Convention, local parishes, and Episcopal college and university ministries staff from the Episcopal Church Center.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
